Telegraph | News | ID card laws gain Royal Assent in return to the wartime past

Be kind of interesting to see what happens when we Yanks visit Over There... I never walk around with my passport (too much hassle if lost or stolen), and if some copper demands ID from me I'll tell him to get stuffed.
Oh wait, I do have a London Tube photo card... think that will do?

Of course with all the cctv cameras around nowadays (and the lack of visible policing) who wants to bet that the next step is for all citizens to be made to wear a little cloth badge sewn onto our outer clothing?
Of course it wouldn't be able to carry all the information of a biometric card but a simple code of colours and shapes could suffice for "general policing needs".
