Contempt for the law widespread.

BBC NEWS | UK | Law-abiding majority 'is a myth'
More than six out of 10 people regularly commit crimes against the government, their employers or businesses, research suggests....

They included paying "cash in hand" to avoid VAT and stealing items from work.

The study found that around one-third of those questioned (34%) paid "cash in hand" to avoid taxation and about one in five (18%) had taken something, such as stationary(sic), from work. ..

The study's author, Professor Suzanna Karstedt, said: "Contempt for the law is as widespread in the centre of society as it is assumed to be rampant at the margins and among specific marginal groups.

"Anti-social behaviour by the few is mirrored by anti-civil behaviour by the many.

So no idea why the serfs are committing petty acts of revolt? Mind you with the Government bringing in ten new laws a day, or whatever, it is hard to not break the law.....

Sadly, we long ago left any idea that what was against the law was also wrong. Make too many laws and they ALL fall into disrepute.

The theory of economics that I best understood was of the olden times local ruler who had a trade route (river or mountain pass) through his area. He had to ne sure that the impost/toll/tax he imposed was LESS than the cost of going the long way round.

With each 3 of us carying the burden of a 4th who works for government, there are no longer ways round, so breaking the law becomes the only option.

Reminds me of Lonnie Donegan's Rock Island Line - "I fooled you, I fooled you, I got pig iron" etc

This huge state bureacracy reminds me of continental Europe here the legal and bureaucratic load is so immmense that everyone breaks the la and dodges taxes. When will these pea-brains ever learn?

Incidentally, the BBC's report follos a long tradition of "debunking" reports and studies. For example, all country people are racists and vile? or the "Research shos that the EU isn't an interfering or oppressive monster". When will the BBC stop colluding with think tanks by bringing us this spurious non news? Read through the report and then tell me why I should pay £135 a year to an organisation that can't even spell stationery properly.

Sorry for the typos. Dodgy keyboard with a wonky W or was it the BBC sub? Still, I have an excuse... I don't charge people a huge impost each year to read my ramblings.

If you have ten thousand regulations you destroy all respect for the law. There are so many laws in this country, criminalising such absurd things, that it's impossivle not to break the law in the course of ones life.
