Top jockeys in 'drink and ride' scandal - Telegraph

Professional jockeys are turning up to ride at leading race meetings while under the influence of alcohol, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.

You mean there are some who do it cold stone sober? Now that is brave.

Why is this a problem? Surely the horse knows it's own way around the course. How do you think the rat-arsed legless soaks got home from the tavern in the old days? The good old nag would wander down to the town at chucking out time, and carry his sozzled master home. The equine species is a marvellous creature, as capable of memorising the licensing laws as he is of negotiating the Grand National.

It's only if the horse has been hitting the beer you have a problem.
