Gordon Brown vs. Keir Hardie

Financial Crisis: Gordon Brown demands £20 bn 'British money' from Iceland - Telegraph
Mr Brown told the BBC: “We are freezing the assets of Icelandic companies in the UK where we can. We will take further action against the Icelandic authorities wherever that is necessary to recover the money.”
A war of words started as Geir Haarde, the prime minister of Iceland, used a press conference to denounce the seizure of Landsbanki assets. The use of anti-terrorism legislation was “not pleasant”, he said.

Of course we want our money back, what losing gambler doesn't; but Gordon Brown is just being a big fat bully and yet again misusing legislation brought in for a specific purpose, no surprise there. And he is lovin' it, he sees this as his moment of destiny, a world leader, the great steersman, beloved protector of his people, the lying bag of shit.

I don't think telling another country to give us back the money that we gave them in all good faith is a particularly good line to take in foreign policy.

Besides, what happens when a couple of British banks go under and the Russians, the Germans, the Chinese or the Gromboolians demand their money back? Cliches about gooses and ganders spring to mind at this point.

There are 300 000 people in Iceland, and there are 300 000 Britons who are each owed the sum of £16K by the Icelandic government, which is in debt to the tune of 8 times it's entire GNP.

Obviously they shouldn't have got into this mess. And neither should the rest of us.

Obviously they just don't have the means to pay their depositors right now, it will take time and the two governments should be negotiating terms.

We could always nationalise West Ham United Football Club.....erm...

...um....

Then again, it's only money. Let the codheads keep it.
