I met him once briefly. I was working in Windsor and he was doing a book signing, so I decided to buy one for a relative. He sat and did signing, photos for people. Nothing was too much trouble. Proper gent.

While I'm happy to accept Tim's view of the GLI (Greatest Living Irishman) personally, I must admit his public persona gets on my hampton so I always switched off in the morning. Unfortunately he's being replaced by a hyperactive recycled teenager from Radio 1, so I shall continue to switch off.
BTW, is the GLI still an Irish citizen or naturalised Brit? If the former, his knighthood is only honorary and he should not be referred to as "Sir". Sorry to be pedantic, but pedants get it right!
(TE He has dual citizenship I believe.)

Terry has been a brilliant foil against the warmists and the nanny state nincompoops. He will be sadly missed and global warming will now get worse.

Ref [26} is to the London Gazaette which confirms the substantive award of the KBE.
So. Sir Michael Terrance Wogan KBE, DL it is. Also OBE (and gold Blue Peter badge - the ultimate accolade.)
Once contributed his own underpants to a Children in Need auction. They fetched £7,500.
(Not a lot of people know that)

Many thanks Alan. I'd often been bothered by that and I'm now quite happy to refer to him as Sir Terry. Sorry about the double posting above.

So farewell then, Sir Terry!
Ah, memories.
Many a long drive down the M4 was made easier by the gentle burble of Wogan-banter.
