I wonder if the old Lee-Enfield is still to hand?
Come Saturday a number of people who were at a certain watering hole on Friday 23rd, will be nursing a decent sized hangover, following the annual toasts. Someone has to do it.
I've drank to your health with others,
I've drank to your health alone.
I've drank to your health so many times,
That I've almost ruined my own.
--Admiral Bull Halsey.
And for the benefit of those who are reading this after a few pints something of a different nature:
On the chest of a barmaid in Sale
Were tattooed the prices of ale.
And on her behind,
For the sake of the blind,
Was the same information in braille.

A young Elizabeth prepares to deal with the Blairs and the Browns should there be any sign of their return.

A friend of mine says the royal family loved the M1 carbines that Ike gave them and that the king switched to keeping one in his car. He says Churchill switched from a Webley to a Colt 1911 for his sidearm. A footnote to the special relationship. Happy Birthday to HRH!

Hmm...as I recall, in the first or second volume of his "History of the Second World War," Winston Churchill mentions providing the King with a carbine, and also notes that his own weapons were good. They were preparing, of course, for a last-ditch stand in the event of a Nazi invasion of England.
