The German Plan for European Unification

Full European unity is next logical step - Times Online

German chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday in a televised speech about the future of the European Union:

“If the euro fails, not only the currency fails. Europe fails too and the idea of European unification. We have a common currency but no common political and economic union. And this is exactly what we must change — therein lies the opportunity of this crisis.”

Whoa! Parse that and it becomes arguable that the leader of the most powerful country in Europe has admitted that the idea of unification, the creation of an equivalent to the United States of America, is a long-term project upon which the EU is embarked. It may be expressed rarely in such bald terms for fear it would spook the citizens of individual states too greatly but it constitutes the objective.

Can the goal be made any clearer?

The goal could not be clearer- but the chances of it succeeding are diminishing. I doubt the German people will long support the idea that they pay for this dream, and without them paying big time the project cannot be completed- only four member states are net contributors, the others are in it for what they can get, and will leave without the subsidies. Of course, making the goal clear will increase resistance from all those people of Europe who were fooled before.

The goal has never been in any doubt, it's just been kept very carefully hidden since the 1950s.
Checkout speeches by the "Founding Fathers" of the EU - there's no secret, the EUSSR was always their final aim.
They were also very clear about not going public on this and just taking one small step at a time towards their secret goal.

Corrupt, secretive and left wing from the start, the EU was never voted for by the UK population.

Referendum now.

Of course if the plan is a unification of Europe by Germany, it's not without precedent.

We have a common currency but no common political and economic union. And this is exactly what we must change

If I remember last time they went for the political union first. It's an improvement so far, I guess.
