Green setback for UK as British power supplied by renewable sources falls
Fall of 7.5% in power obtained from wind, hydro and other renewable sources blamed on dry winter with low wind speeds
The news comes as the government will tomorrow unveil a major report (pdf) into how it will pay for the hundreds of billions of new spending needed to meet the UK's targets for renewable energy and cutting climate change emissions by setting up a new Green Investment Bank (GIB).

"Fall of 7.5% in power obtained from wind, hydro and other renewable sources blamed on "

Things that anyone who has ever even looked out a window, let be gone out-of-doors, has been saying for years.

Back when the "Domesday Boke" was compiled, England had well over a thousand windmills and several hundred waterwheels despite a much smaller population. There are good reasons 90% disappeared by the time of Queen Victoria's passing.

I do expect "fossil fuel" to someday be a thing of the past, but with the exception of nuclear power our current non-"fossil" technologies are inadequate to keep us alive, and completely incapable of maintenance of our lifestyle[s]. The push for "green/renewable" has led only to such idiocy as a wood-burning power plant [Leith?] which must import - ignoring the "reduce dependence on foreign fuel" vehemence - wood from elsewhere.
