No Afrika Corps

Germany: Abstained on Libya no-fly zone because it sees "considerable dangers and risks" in military action against Muammar Gaddafi.

Scared of power stations, scared of the desert, bunch of wusses but at least we have the Italians to save the day...

Just a shame we don't have an aircraft carrier or any capability to really help, but then the MOD brains are only planning for the last war as usual.

" . . then the MOD brains are only planning for the last war as usual."

If only: they are actually planning (if you can call it that) for the Boer War which didn't require navy back-up to land troops in potentially hostile territory or to support aircraft ops.

Am I missing something here?

Why bother the Germans, or the Brits for that matter. Why not just send in the Spanish air-traffic controllers?

Besides, the canny old crazy colonel has done it again! He has declared a unilateral ceasefire.

Having recovered from its initial speed-wobble, the regime managed to seize the momentum and survive with its forces intact.

The UN demanded a ceasefire and they got one. Now NATO will be in a deliciously awkward position. If the rebels don't respect the ceasefire, then (irony of ironies) they'll be the ones to be dealt with by NATO!

Looks like the usual UN solution all over again: "stasis" and the status quo frozen along a ceasefire line. Two Libyas! Yay! Worse still, neither side in the affair - Gaddafi's or the rebels - wants foreign troops on the ground.

What a triumphant muddle!

And the lesson to the dithering West?

Damned if you do. Damned if you don't.

Why are you rooting for Al Qaeda?
Khadaffi is right now the ONLY government leader fighting Muslim imperialism anywhere at all. We should applaud and support him, not bomb him!

And no, I don't like the man.
