We Have Become A Grandfather

The first of a new generation of Englishmen, for it is a Grandson, was born last night.
All doing well.
I feel my new status means I need to go to have a little lie down.

Dear Tim,

Don't worry, it gets better. Here are my thoughts :

GRANDGARDENER

The murmur of bee, the butter of fly,
peace-sounds of life, as it passes me by
while I sit and read, or snooze in the sun,
knowing full well my day’s duties are done.

Cabbage patch weeded, denuded of dolls,
now all raised up, a succession of squalls
about eating, dressing, when to do “doos”,
though in between, there’s been lots of fun too.

My garden efforts have paid off at last;
horticulture angst in my distant past.
Now it’s their turn, to worry and to fret :
I’ve passed on my former need to beget.

So delightful when begotten come by,
their young laughter fills my ear and my eye;
raising of small flowers takes quite a knack;
now specially true, I can give them back !

The murmur of bee, the butter of fly,
peace-sounds of life, as it passes me by
while I sit and read, or snooze in the sun,
knowing full well my day’s duties are done ....

Congratulations Tim. Wonderful news.

Congratulations to all.

Kind regards

Congratulations Tim, better start stocking up on Werthers Originals

Congratulations Sir - wonderful news indeed. Congrats to the proud parents too!

Great news.

In honour of the event a blast of great magnitude has been set off at Kleinkudoeskop Unobtainium this very afternoon. And to toast the young gentleman's arrival properly, Nurse informs me that I will be allowed two glasses of whisky with my special smarties tonight.

I shall now go and drive round the open pit at speeds well in excess of the limit tooting my horn like a newly liberated Egyptian until Helphansafeti tells me not to.

Gratters, old chap! I hope that you will drink to celebrate...

Congratulations, I became a father to my first boy last week and though very happy I do wonder just what type of England our little Englishmen will grow up in...but for now time to celebrate.

Congratulations, Tim. Being a grandparent is great, only the one two-year old girl so far but having her visit is always fun (she's half Aussie, quarter South African and quarter pom). Congratulations to you to, Thud. I'm too old for babies now but next to marrying MrsBud, having the four little buds was the best thing I ever did.

Congratulations and best wishes to the parents!!
I shall wet the head of the Youngest Englishman's with good English cider.

Don't give in to old age. Why, I'll bet you have MONTHS of vim and vigor left in you.

Lie down? Lie down? Is this the sort of 'Englishness' you want to teach? Up Sir ! Up. There is a Nation to restore. You have a reason now. Kudos to Mum and Dad, but a profound obligation upon you to correct all their mistakes with benign interference. Prepare knees for dandling.
